The history of Moncler

Moncler is a premium outerwear brand that was founded in 1952 in Monestier-de-Clermont, France. The brand was created by René Ramillon and Andrè Vincent, who started by making clothes for mountaineers and hikers. The name Moncler is an acronym for Monestier de Clermont, the place where the brand was founded.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Moncler became popular with professional mountaineers and amateurs alike due to the quality of its products and its functional yet elegant style. Moncler jackets were particularly appreciated for their warmth and water resistance.

In 1968, Moncler launched its first skiwear collection, which was an immediate success. That same year, the brand equipped the French ski team for the Olympic Games in Grenoble. This collaboration with the Olympic team considerably increased Moncler's visibility and contributed to its international expansion.

During the 1970s, Moncler continued to expand and diversify by offering new products such as down jackets, parkas and coats. The brand became particularly popular in Italy, where it opened its first store in 1982.

In 2003, Remo Ruffini bought Moncler and steered the brand into the high-end fashion market. Since then, Moncler has collaborated with many top designers, such as Giambattista Valli, Thom Browne, and Fragment's Hiroshi Fujiwara. These collaborations have helped modernize Moncler's style and adapt it to contemporary fashion trends.

In 2008, Moncler launched its first luxury clothing line, Moncler Gamme Rouge, which was created by Italian designer Giambattista Valli. This high-end line was an immediate hit and helped solidify Moncler's reputation as a luxury fashion brand.

In 2013, Moncler launched its first children's clothing line, Moncler Enfant, which was created by Italian designer Valentina Maggi. This children's clothing line was a hit with parents and helped expand the brand's reach.
